03-05-2021 10:13 am Pearce Wilson posted Ashley had the good idea of adding competition results histories for each of our fencers to the member pages on the website.
She has already begun compiling the data.
To start it will just be National competitions but it is possible we could add local events in the future.

02-21-2021 9:20 pm Pearce Wilson posted *I THINK* we have all of our video archive loaded into the Fencers of the Corn Television system.
Some go way back to the beginning of the team in 2008. I don't expect there to be many views but hopefully you will enjoy the look back.
Next up, the fun task of creating more cool fencing video!

We can have as many channels as we want.

Two years ago we were able to host a Mardi Gras fencing tournament and party. This year, even New Orleans can't do a real Mardi Gras.
Next year expect a blowout fencing party! Enjoy this throw back promotional video from that tournament from 2 years ago: Click to view.

Until we get a chance to book that flight... yes, we will have fencing tonight for anyone who can get to the Grange safely.

02-09-2021 7:12 pm Pearce Wilson posted Seeking 2 fencers who are willing to risk life or grievous bodily injury to make an epic snow fencing video. Ok, we won't actually be risking life or grievous bodily injury (probably) but it is going to be crazy cold this weekend so expect to get really cold fingers until we are done shooting and can sit by the fire and drink hot cocoa. Let us know if you are interested.

02-08-2021 4:00 pm Pearce Wilson posted Weather impacted practice tonight? Wundergound.com says one inch of snow. Sounds like we can still practice. But if roads are bad where you are stay home!
Tonight's practice is cancelled. Updated weather forecast calls for 1/10 inch of ice. New drivers don't belong on icy roads.

02-08-2021 3:38 pm Pearce Wilson posted One of our fencers sprained her ankle at practice last Thursday. We have a club history of somewhere around 15,000 manhours of practice time and this is only the second injury we've had that required time off from practice. When tracking injuries across sports, fencing is one of the safest! Our experience backs that up.

02-07-2021 7:04 pm Pearce Wilson posted Academy of Fencing Masters (https://academyoffencingmasters.com/blog/), has a blog post about the loss of fencers and fencing clubs this past year. In most parts of the US the number of clubs and fencers has dropped by about half. Many of the fencers will come back once we get an all clear on the Corona Virus, but a club that has gone out of business is probably gone for good. The fencing landscape will look a lot different next year than it did the past couple of years.

02-03-2021 8:55 pm Pearce Wilson posted We are starting to see signs people are fed up with the USFA corona virus safely rules. In the past couple weeks the entire leadership of a USFA Division in Florida has resigned from the USFA and their clubs have joined the AAU. Then over the weekend I saw where a club in another part of the country is hosting a tournament that does not appear to require the mouth and nose masks currently required by USFA rules. That tournament is not USFA sanctioned. I don't envy the USFA. They have to enforce rules strick enough to satisfy their most squimish members AND the USFA insurance carrier that nothing can go wrong. That's a tough task.

02-04-2021 4:46 pm Pearce Wilson posted Add another tournament apparently not following USFA mouth and nose mask rules. So far the renegades are all in the southeastern U.S.
02-09-2021 5:08 pm Pearce Wilson posted Update on the Florida clubs moving to AAU. There must be more to it than masks. One of the clubs has a high school AAU tournament scheduled and it does require mouth and nose mask for all participants and spectators.

01-18-2021 09:07 am Pearce Wilson posted I read an interesting article this morning claiming the Corona Virus emergency has peaked in most places in the United States and vaccine or no, we are rapidly reaching 'herd immunity'. This photo is from last years' Junior Olympics National Championship. Unfortunately the 2021 event has been pushed back to this summer, if it gets held at all.
Now we are starting to hear questions about canceling the already postponed 2020 Olympic Summer Games planned for Japan this summer.
We will continue to train but with the understanding there may not be any competition until the 2021/2022 season starts in August.
In the meantime, come fence and only worry about having fun!

Yes, we absolutely do fence in a cornfield! Literally at Bluff Grange, a farmers' coop building in the corner of a cornfield on the bluffs over the Missisippi River Valley near St. Louis in Southern Illinois.
We have both recreational and competitive fencers of all ages.
